Insulated Bespoke Timber Garden Building In Grounds of Period Property, Essex
In the grounds of a period building the discerning homeowners were looking to avoid the commute and create their own personal space for a workout. Lomax + Wood were able to translate the clients’ requirements into a bespoke, insulated timber garden building that will stand the test of time.
The Lomax + Wood Gold Service was used which includes a design consultation, scheme drawings for approval, electrical drawings, sourcing of lights, radiators, flooring, installation and first and second fix electrics. In essence the complete package so that the client has only one contact should there be any issues.
The foundation beam has been placed on a single brick plinth to ensure the structure does not sit in water, a screed floor was provided and 20mm high impact gym floor tiles used. A typical suspended timber floor was not used in this instance to avoid damage from gym equipment and to reduce impact on the users’ joints.
The insulated walls are constructed with pre-treated 68mm external sections, 30mm wall insulation panels and 18mm internal boards. This in-conjunction with the insulation to the roof provides a building that can be used all year round.
The windows and doors are factory finished with espagnolette locking, double glazed units, fully weather-stripped and with polished chrome key locking handles. The glass is toughened for safety. Zinc gutters, as opposed to plastic, were also included as a finishing touch.
The folding doors and adjacent glazed panels let natural light flood in, with the option to open fully in the warmer months and let the outside in. In addition, top hung opening casement windows were placed at either end to allow the building to be aired without the necessity of opening the doors.
